  • कुछ सालों तक इस्तेमाल किया, फिर Mastodon पर और उसके बाद Nostr पर चला गया
    यह काफ़ी अच्छी तरह काम करता था, coding करना भी आसान था, और अब भी कुछ लोग मेरी twtxt file fetch करते हैं। लेकिन apps थोड़ी कच्ची थीं, इसलिए follow management जैसी चीज़ें धीरे-धीरे झंझट लगने लगीं
    कोई ठीक-ठाक mobile app न होने से, जिन हालात में मैं social media सबसे ज़्यादा इस्तेमाल करता हूँ, वहाँ इसका मज़ा कम हो गया

  • इसमें bugs काफ़ी ज़्यादा थे। config directory या txt file directory जैसी चीज़ों में standard से ज़रा भी हटते ही टूट जाता था, और आखिर में standard के हिसाब से सेट करने के बाद भी दिक्कतें रहीं
    twtxt following error देता था। शुरू में लगा कि शायद इसलिए क्योंकि मैं किसी को follow नहीं कर रहा था, लेकिन twtxt news feed follow करने के लिए चुनने के बाद भी error नहीं गया
    txt file मौजूद होने के बावजूद “feed not available” error आया, और शायद यह version difference की वजह से हो सकता है। सच कहूँ तो दिलचस्प तो है, लेकिन मैंने छोड़ दिया

  • Twtxt/Yarn community उम्मीद से बड़ी है। Yarn.social[1] का founder होने के नाते, और चूँकि Yarn.social खुद Twtxt specification और extensions[2] इस्तेमाल करता है, साथ ही flagship instance twtxt.net[3] भी चलाता है, news feeds को छोड़कर भी मैं लगभग 70 लोगों के आसपास लोगों से नियमित interact करता हूँ

  • समझ नहीं आता कि ऐसे minimal content publishing systems क्यों मान लेते हैं कि visual images की ज़रूरत नहीं है
    इंसानों ने अक्षरों से बहुत पहले से images के जरिए खुद को व्यक्त किया है
    जो system लोगों को सिर्फ ASCII, fixed-width fonts और single color में खुद को व्यक्त करने के लिए मजबूर करता है, वह भद्दा है, और मेरे हिसाब से मानवीय अभिव्यक्ति के प्रति लगभग असम्मानजनक है
    1983 में, जब ऐसी अभिव्यक्ति संभव बनाने वाली technology आम नहीं थी, तब यह बात समझ में आती थी, लेकिन अब इसे क्यों करना चाहिए, समझ नहीं आता। खुद को इस तरह सीमित करने वाले लोग कैसे लोग होते हैं? क्या वे इसे आत्म-अनुशासन या संयम मानते हैं, या कोई artistic statement?
    यह जानने की उत्सुकता है कि कोई इस निष्कर्ष तक कैसे पहुँचता है: “मैं इस system के प्रति समर्पित रहूँगा, और हमेशा एकसमान single-color typography format में सिर्फ लिखित भाषा से ही communicate करूँगा। मैं स्वेच्छा से इस constraint में प्रवेश करूँगा”
    मध्यकालीन पांडुलिपियाँ लिखने वाले monk हों, या ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, China में parchment पर history और literature छोड़ने वाले लोग—ऐसी सोच सुनकर वे हैरान रह जाते

    • लेखन का विकास images के बाद इसलिए हुआ कि visual images abstract concepts को व्यक्त करने में कमजोर होती हैं
      लेखन भी आखिरकार letters नामक images पर आधारित है, लेकिन literacy नाम के social pattern का उपयोग करके बहुत highly encoded information पहुँचाता है
      आज जिसे हम स्वाभाविक मानते हैं, इस invention को पिछली पीढ़ियों ने इतना पूजनीय माना कि कभी-कभी iconoclasts की तरह images को बाहर निकालने की चरम सीमा तक चले गए
      इसका सबसे चरम रूप mathematical notation है, जो सबसे abstract ideas को संक्षेप में व्यक्त करता है
      बेशक images और text को मिलाना बहुत उपयोगी है। किसी graph या chart, या real scene को सिर्फ text से समझाकर देखिए। लेकिन literature जैसे दूसरे उद्देश्यों में यह दिमाग को mode बदलने पर मजबूर करके experience को कमजोर करने वाला distraction भी बन सकता है
    • विडंबना यह है कि जिस जगह यह comment पोस्ट किया गया है, वह खुद expression से ज्यादा content को महत्व देने वाली retro-style site है
    • हर किसी को वह बनाने दें जो वह बनाना चाहता है। अगर कुछ और बनाना है तो खुद बना लें। ये लोग कोई नुकसान तो नहीं पहुँचा रहे, फिर उनके प्रयास को कमतर क्यों बताना?
      “अगर आप कुछ बनाते नहीं हैं, तो आपकी पहचान आपकी क्षमता से नहीं, बल्कि आपके taste से होती है। Taste सिर्फ लोगों को संकीर्ण और exclusionary बनाता है। इसलिए बनाइए”

    • पुराने शानदार developers में एक cargo cult है, जो 30 साल पहले university के दिनों में सीखे email, IRC, EMACS जैसी चीज़ों के अभ्यस्त होने के कारण feature न होने को पूजता है
    • demo video देखकर ही पता चलता है कि यह ASCII system नहीं है, और docs पढ़ने पर पुष्टि होती है कि text files को UTF-8 माना जाता है
      इसलिए analysis में थोड़ी irony आ जाती है। यह system उन ancient image-based expression systems में से एक, hieroglyphs, को भी allow करता है जिसका आपने संकेत दिया था। Hieroglyphs Unicode में शामिल हैं
      हालांकि लगता है कि पिछले 9 सालों में इस system पर असल में hieroglyphs इस्तेमाल करने वाले लोग बहुत कम रहे होंगे

    • अगर यह widely used हो गया, तो गलत होने पर भी मैं इसे “twixt” बोलने वाला हूँ
    • sibling comments में pronunciation suggestions पर पड़े upvotes को legally binding माना जाना चाहिए, और वही authoritative pronunciation बन जाएगा। सोच-समझकर upvote करना चाहिए
    • मुझे लगता है मैं इसे “Twit-ext” की तरह pronounce करूँगा
