  • 1995 में American Plastics Council employee के internal memo ने माना कि recycled plastic के लिए virgin raw materials से compete करना मुश्किल है
    • Memo में लिखा था कि निकट भविष्य में नई supply तेजी से बढ़ेगी और PCR, यानी post-consumer recycled material, की कीमतों पर मजबूत दबाव डालेगी
  • इन materials को evidence के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया गया है कि industry recycling की viability और economics की सीमाएँ जानती थी

कानूनी जिम्मेदारी की संभावना

  • रिपोर्ट के authors मानते हैं कि ऐसी public deception ने corporate misconduct और pollution से consumers और public की रक्षा के लिए बने कानूनों का उल्लंघन किया हो सकता है

  • कई companies ने अपने products में recycled plastic इस्तेमाल करने का वादा किया है, इसलिए recycled plastic के उपयोग मिल सकते हैं
  • European Strategy for Plastics in the Circular Economy ने 2025 तक EU products में 10 million tonnes recycled plastic शामिल करने का लक्ष्य रखा
    • Europe में हर साल लगभग 26 million tonnes plastic waste पैदा होता है
